The Shocking Cost of Prom

The Shocking Cost of Prom

How much should a prom dress cost? The average high schooler (parents) are spending just under $700 this year! Some are spending as much as $2000!

Teens in the Northeast, spend the most on prom, an average of $699.56, compared to $625 in the West, $619 in the South and $610 in the Midwest, according to the survey of 1,700 people.

“When that happens, teens feel like they’re falling short and feel pressure to spend more time and money on their appearance in order to keep up,” Dr. Renee Engeln, a Northwestern University psychology professor and author told Yahoo Style in an email. “If what you see on Instagram suggests that all of your peers are heading toward perfect-looking, highly expensive prom experiences, it’s natural that you’ll feel pressure to meet that same standard.” Read more via usatoday.com.
