Too Hot To Handle!

Too Hot To Handle!

North Carolina’s Highest Weather Records

Hottest Day

The hottest day on record for North Carolina was August 21, 1983 with a whopping high of 110 degrees Fahrenheit in Fayetteville.

Coldest Day

The coldest day on record was in Mount Mitchell on January 21, 1985 with lows of -34°F. This was part of an Artic outbreak which brought record low temperatures from Asheville across the state to the Raleigh region and beyond.

Wettest Day

Sampson County gets to claim the wettest day in North Carolina on September 15, 2018 with 35 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. I hope they brought their swimsuits.

Earliest Known Record

The earliest known continuous record started in Wilmington on April 1, 1874. Other records started after in Raleigh, but Wilmington can claim to have started it here in our state.

Most Snow

Ever wondered how much snow fell during a single storm? Well in 1987, a single storm from April 2nd to the 6th, had over 60 inches of snow in Newfound Gap, Swain County in the Great Smoky Mountains. That is over 5 feet!
