Art Of Cool Festival Presents A Journey Through the Legacy of Black Culture with Igmar Thomas & the Revive Big Band Feat. Special Guests Produced by Revive Music A Journey Through the Legacy of Black Culture is the exploration & excavation of music that has shaped the sounds of our American music history for a millennium. Igmar Thomas & the Revive Big Band present A Journey Through The Legacy of Black Culture – a groundbreaking series of concept performances composed as a living testament to the breadth of African diasporic musical traditions the continued impact on American culture. Combining Jazz, Blues, Rock n Roll, R&B and Hip-Hop, the band presents a transformative series that
seeks to peel back the layers of appropriation and commercial perversion to translate the roots of black music – from Louis Armstrong, James Brown to A Tribe Called Quest – according to the unifying rhythms at the core of the culture.

Artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Nicholas Payton and Bilal have joined the band in honoring the classic compositions and innovators that have served as the heartbeat of the sound. Spanning genre and generation, Igmar Thomas & the Revive Big Band presents a body of work reflective of their collective reverence of the standard and unabashed sonic freedom. Labeled the ” most electrifying young lions in jazz.”

Revive Big Band makes music without walls that exists as a living homage to the black musical canon, from Louis Armstrong and Marvin Gaye to Hip-Hop artists of today.
