Prepping for Florence: Don’t Tape Your Windows!

The National Weather Center has a message for those in the path of Florence: Don’t tape your windows!

The National Hurricane Center is encouraging residents to skip taping their windows when a hurricane is headed their way because they believe it leads to a false sense of security and actually increases danger.

Taping your windows can create larger and deadlier pieces of glass when windows break or blow through a home during a storm.

“Our goal is to break this myth,” says Bill Read, director of the National Hurricane Center. “It does not protect your windows. At best, it’s an inconvenience. At worst, some people have the illusion that they’re safe … and people can get severely hurt.”
