Sound Palate Pairings: Rose, Cardamom and Vanilla Latte and Louis Armstrong

Sound Palate Pairings: Rose, Cardamom and Vanilla Latte and Louis Armstrong

Listen as Chef Whitney Dane of the Honeysuckle Tea House tells Kitty the story behind the tea house, the health benefits of tea, and gives her Sound Palate Pairing.

Rose TeaMagical Rose  Latte (Rose, Cardamom and Vanilla Latte) (Makes 2)

Dedicated to our friend, Colleen Minton, of Terravita

  • 1 tablespoon dried rose petals*
  • 1 tablespoon black tea or rooibus for caffeine free option (or omit all together)
  • 12 oz hot water

Steep rose petals and tea for 3 minutes. Water should be hot, but before boiling. This will prevent the tea from tasting bitter.

Infuse Cream

  • 5 cardamom pods
  • One vanilla pod split, with insides gently scraped into pan
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cups almond milk (or whatever your milk preference is: coconut, hemp, half & half)
  • 1 Tbsp cacao butter (optional)

Heat all ingredients over medium heat and bring to a gentle pre-simmer, stirring often.

When the flavor you desire is reached, remove from heat , strain through a fine mesh sieve into vitamix and froth on high. If you prefer an aerolatte machine to whip up froth, only whip up half your mug full. Combine tea and infused milk, being sure to scoop the layers of airy cream on to the top of your gorgeous rose tea. Garnish with sesame seeds or rose petals for extra anti-inflammatory benefits.

This recipe makes enough for another cup, or combine tea, creamer, and aromatics in fridge and let continue to steep overnight – run through a fine sieve and enjoy over ice the next day. Absolutely divine.

*Can I brew with any rose petals?
No. Roses sold in stores are generally treated with chemicals. To consume florals, you’ll need to use organic and pesticide free petals.

Try Mountain Rose Herbs or try this beautiful rose tea blend.
