Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef, 80/20 preferred
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 hamburger buns
- Lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- ½ small onion, thinly sliced
- Pickles, optional
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Mayonnaise
Instructions
1. Season the Beef
Place the ground beef in a bowl and gently mix in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Be careful not to overwork the meat.
2. Form the Patties
Divide the beef into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty slightly wider than the hamburger buns. Press a small indentation into the center of each patty to help prevent them from puffing up while cooking.
3. Cook the Burgers
Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred doneness.
4. Add the Cheese
Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each burger during the final minute of cooking. Cover the skillet or grill briefly to allow the cheese to melt.
5. Toast the Buns
Place the hamburger buns cut-side down on the skillet or grill and toast for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
6. Assemble the Burgers
Spread ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on the toasted buns. Add lettuce, the cheesy burger patty, tomato, onion, and pickles.
7. Serve
Top with the remaining bun and serve immediately with fries, potato wedges, or your favorite burger side.
